Brucemore Mansion Reopens For Christmas Tours

Just in time to add a bit of holiday cheer, the famous Brucemore Mansion of Cedar Rapids has re-opened to the public. The opening follows the shutdown caused by the August 10 derecho that caused $2.5 million in damages to the 19th century mansion and its 26 acre grounds, according to KWWL.

The Brucemore Mansion has essentially been closed since last December, according to their Facebook page. They're open now for the Christmas season, offering an excellent opportunity to create your own afternoon holiday outing.

You can book a self-guided tour here. They're available Thursdays through Sundays, now through December 20. Admission entry times start every 20 minutes beginning at 1:00 p.m. with the last entry allowed at 3:40 p.m.

Due to Coivd-19 restriction, there are only a limited number of guests and appointments available so you should act quickly to reserve your tour now. The cost is $10 per person and limited to six total guests at any one time.

The holiday opening of Brucemore is designed with safety and comfort as their highest concern. Admission comes with requirements including mandatory face masks for all, and only booking small tour groups of no larger than six.

If you've never toured Brucemore at Christmas you're in for a treat. The 1886 Queen Anne Mansion is beautifully decorated for the season and reflects how the Douglas family celebrated their holiday time here over 100 years ago.

After you've toured the mansion, why not top off the afternoon and treat yourself to mug of hot cocoa, while you turn up the holiday music on 104.5 KDAT.

Brucemore Mansion is located at 2160 Linden Drive SE Cedar Rapids. The grounds are open Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The grounds are open Saturdays beginning at 9:00 a.m. and Sundays opening at 11:00 a.m.
