As you grow older you realize that you enter different stages of adulthood. But I'm not sure I've entered my 'sophisticated' phase of my life yet. But I guess that depends on what your definition of sophisticated is. When I hear the word, I think of someone who has a very specific look, and is in to very specific things. A new study out agrees. So what make someone 'sophisticated?'

SWNS reports that a survey of over 2,000 Americans conducted by OnePoll, on behalf of Wine.com, found that the following attributes make someone sophisticated. How many can you check off?

  • Having an opinion on the stock market. 38% say that shows you're sophisticated.
  • Being able to discuss different wines, or things like scotch and whiskey. 35%
  • Wearing expensive clothes. 33%
  • Going to museums. 31%
  • Being able to discuss current events. 31%

How did you do? My results tell me I'm not quite there yet. I have an opinion on the stock market. It's better when it's high. I'm not really into wines but I do enjoy some high quality whiskey. I'd like to wear expensive clothes, but you know, family comes first. I haven't been to a museum in years but I CAN discuss current events with you if you like.

The survey found that we start enjoying the finer things in life at the age of 26. But again, what do you define as the 'finer things?' I guess my definition of someone who is sophisticated is someone who has their act together. They appear well put together, whether their clothes are expensive or not. They can talk about current events, and sound somewhat educated in doing so. And their idea of a nice drink isn't something that comes out of a tap. How do you stack up against that list?
