Al Capone’s Granddaughters Auctioning His Weapons, Accessories, and Heirlooms

Al Capone's granddaughters have been living in the San Francisco Bay Area for a few decades, and they're now ready to auction a bunch of their grandfather's personal possessions, including his favorite handgun, photos of him with family and 'associates,' and a letter sent from Alcatraz to his only kid, Sonny.

The auction begins on October 8th, and features some cool personal items like a diamond-studded monogramed matchbook, a decorative humidor, some china, and an awesome home movie reel.

“A Century of Notoriety: the Estate of Al Capone” is the name of the auction, and the lot hosts 174 items.

The sisters decided to auction the items after all these years because they're in their 70's.

“We decided it was time to deal with this and to let the public have it,” Diane Capone told San Francisco Chronicle.

She said she hopes that the lot will help the public see that he wasn't just the guy known for the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, or Public Enemy Number One.

“He was a very devoted family man, very committed to his family,” she said. “Everything about his personal life speaks of family, home, entertaining,” she said told the paper. “He was always very social and it shows (in items being auctioned). There’s china and furniture and crystal and all kinds of things that made up his personal life.”

The auction is being held by Witherell's Luxury Asset Auctioneers and Appraisers. The firm's founder believes this may be one of the top celebrity estate auctions ever held.
