A Popular Mount Vernon Café is Closing Its Doors
Downtown Mount Vernon will have one less restaurant after this weekend. According to a new Facebook post, the Skillet Café will shut down operations after more than a decade.
The owners of the Skillet Café made the big announcement on Sunday night, revealing that this Saturday, August 21st will be their final day in business. Fran & Cherie Guillaume first opened the breakfast and lunch joint back in 2008 at 101 1st St NE in Mount Vernon, and they've gotten to know a lot of people in the community these last 13 years. They wrote that they've loved their journey at the restaurant, but that they have new plans for their future. The post says:
"It was always our plan that as soon as our youngest graduated high school we would transition into something that would give us more freedom with our schedule. That event happened in 2019 and in August of 2020 we listed the building and restaurant for sale. Our hope was to find the right person or persons to take over the Skillet and keep it going, but after more than a year we realized that was not meant to be and now this grand old building on the corner of Highway 1 & Main St. will have new owners and a new purpose in the future."
We're not sure what will be moving into the location next, but we hope it will be as beloved as the Skillet Café appears to be! You can check out the full statement from the owners on Facebook HERE.
