Since Prairie Soup closed in March and Fresh Deli & Grill closed in June, Downtown Cedar Rapids has been in need of a new place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch. Lucky for us, a new restaurant officially opened late last week!

On Friday morning, Tower Cafe opened its doors at 200 1st St SE, on the ground level of the Alliant Energy Tower. The space was last home to Fresh Deli & Grill.

According to the website, Tower Cafe is operated by Andy Deutmeyer and Vic Kuper, and will offer "quality crafted food, prepared fresh and fast." The eatery will serve breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., with items like the Flatbread Breakfast Pizza, Breakfast Quesadilla, Vanilla French Toast, and Biscuits & Gravy. During lunch hours (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.), customers can order from the Grill Station or Deli & Salad Station. Options from the Grill Station include Carne Asada Street Tacos, the Crispy Chicken Wrap, the Tower Burger, the Warm Turkey Melt, and more. From the Deli & Salad Station, you can choose from the Mediterranean Salad, the Oven Toasted Italian Sub, the Asian Chicken Salad, the Roast Beef Sandwich, and the Tuscan Chicken Sandwich. You also have the option to build your own sandwich or salads.

During my visit on Friday, I ordered a chicken quesadilla and homemade cheddar tater tots on the side. It was quick and delicious!

Tower Cafe looks pretty much the same as Fresh Deli & Grill on the inside, but one of the owners told me that they plan to do some updates in the future. The restaurant is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can order in-store or in advance on the website HERE.
