A Midwestern City Beamed A Message To Outer Space Inviting Aliens

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I've seen enough movies to know that aliens deciding to show up on Earth usually means that something bad (think of the movie Independence Day) is going to happen.

That's probably why I fall into the category of people who think that trying to signal alien civilizations to let them know where to find us might not be the best idea we've ever had as human beings. Sure, the aliens may be very cool, but I still think we should be careful about who we invite to a party here on Earth in case...well...uh, they want to kill us all.

Well, it seems as though a Midwestern city doesn't feel the same way, and went ahead and sent out an invite to the cosmos.

The Lexington, Kentucky Convention And Visitors Bureau Used An Infrared Laser to Send Out A Message To Space Inviting Extraterrestrial Travelers (or, ETTs)

It seems as though the Lexington CVB has been listening to all the talk over the last few years about UFOs and alien visitors, and decided that if the aliens are going to visit anyway, they might as well visit Kentucky to see what the Bluegrass State has to offer.

Recent UFO revelations and advances in deep space imaging have fueled the belief that we humans are not alone in the universe. So VisitLEX and a team of Lexington scientists and scholars used an infrared laser to beam a coded invitation toward potential extraterrestrial travelers in the TRAPPIST-1 solar system 40 light years away. The message was sent from the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. So far, no unusual activity has been reported in the skies above Lexington.
