5/27/2014: The Worst FIRST PITCH Ever?
On May 27, 2014, at Citi Field in New York, the Mets shutout the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-0. But the highlight happened BEFORE it even started.
On what has been considered as one of the "Worst Ceremonial First Pitches of All-Time," Rapper 50-Cent tossed an errant ball from his left hand that came nowhere near home plate. As Harry Doyle would have announced, "Juuuuust a bit outside."
Maybe he's actually a lefty?
It's easily one of the worst first pitches of all time, but in my opinion, it's not THEE WORST. Here are some other fine examples of what NOT to do when you're on the pitcher's mound:
May 9, 2009, another Mets fan -- Howard Stern's producer, Gary Dell'Abate, hit an umpire with his pitch:
On July 14, 2013, Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen showed the world what it looks like to throw a baseball into the turf in Florida:
Former Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory embarrassed himself on April 2, 2007, by throwing the ball 30 feet to the first base side of the field.
In 2011 in Japan, Mariah Carey -- while wearing high heels -- bounced the ball four times before it was retrieved by the catcher:
This next terrible pitch from 2017 is close to being the worst, especially when it hits a guy with a camera in the groin. Introducing Jordan Leandre...
But at least the cameraman got the shot...
But the WORST first pitch ever (in my opinion) happened on May 28, 2019, at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago. White Sox employee Mary Ruich threw out the ceremonial first pitch and drilled the camera held by Darren Georgia. (FYI: The camera and the man were ok after being hit by this ferocious fastball)
