Chances are you've probably updated your TV in the past several years to a big, HD flat screen.  I have a 50 inch 1080p TV in our living room, and I can't imagine life without it!  First we had HD, then we got TVs with apps built in.  So what's the next BIG thing?  4K. As a matter of fact, 4K televisions are already available at most major electronic retailers.  But what is 4K?

It's simple.  It's all about the pixels.  How many more pixels are we talking?  Try 8 million!  My 1080p television for example, is 1080 columns high and 1920 columns wide.  4K DOUBLES that, adding nearly 4 times the pixels to your viewing pleasure.  The more pixels you have, the clearer and sharper the image will be.  But will you notice the difference if you upgrade?  That's a trickier question.

No doubt, 4K is a huge difference over today's HD.  But to see the difference, you'll need to watch 4K material through it, and sit closer to the television to see the increased clarity.  The other downside with this technology right now is that your source material is limited.  Some shows and movies are now being filmed in 4K.  Sony and Netflix offer 4K, and Amazon soon will as well.  Like any "new" technology, it doesn't always pay to get in on the bottom floor.  But with TV prices falling so quickly, the cost to upgrade to 4K isn't as high as you may think!
