Putting your kids on the school bus each morning can be a leap of faith for some parents. You want to make sure they get to their destination safely and on time. The Cedar Rapids School District will be installing new technology that will allow parents to track their kids as they ride the bus to and from school. All that information and more will be available thanks to a new app.

The school district approved the new technology at their Monday night meeting. The new devices are called 'Zonar Technology' and the district hopes to have them installed on school buses by the start of the next school year. The new devices will let the school district track the bus driver's route. It will send alerts to parents if there is some sort of delay or an accident.

School buses will also now have a place for kids to scan attendance cards. That way parents can track which bus their student is on and when. Zonar will also allow drivers to do inspections before and after routes that are required by the Iowa Department of Transportation.

The new technology will cost the district around $70,000. The app will be free of cost for parents.
