Just days after a 104-year-old Chicago woman broke the world record for being the oldest person to tandem skydive out of an airplane, news broke that she has passed away.

It's on tons of peoples' bucket lists to visit the Grand Canyon, see the Statue of Liberty, go to Niagara Falls, visit the Great Wall of China, and even take a picture with the iconic Eiffel Tower.

Not for Dorothy Hoffner, though.  Just four years ago, when she was 100 years old, she skydived for her very first time.  After her first jump, she wanted another go where she lead the jump instead of being pushed out of the plane.

Dorothy set out to land a world record for being the oldest person to tandem skydive out of an airplane - she did it at 104 years old; born in 1918.  Whoa.

Skydive Chicago on Facebook went live to capture Dorothy's iconic moment.

She hung up the walker, geared up, and boarded the plane for her jump!

Days after the record-breaking jump, Dorothy passed away.

"Hoffner's close friend, Joe Conant, said she was found dead Monday morning by staff at the Brookdale Lake View senior living community." [wesh]

Skydive Chicago and United States Parachute Association made a joint statement and said the following about Dorothy:

"We are deeply saddened by Dorothy's passing and feel honored to have been a part of making her world-record skydive a reality.

"Skydiving is an activity that many of us safely tuck away in our bucket lists. But Dorothy reminds us that it's never too late to take the thrill of a lifetime. We are forever grateful that skydiving was a part of her exciting, well-lived life." [wesh]
