[UPDATE Thursday 6 a.m.]

The National Weather Service has upgraded Wednesday's Winter Storm Watch into a Winter Storm Warning. The counties in pink in the graphic below are included in the warning. Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, the Quad Cities, and Dubuque are all in the snow bullseye.

The Warning will be in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday (2/8) through 6 p.m. Friday (2/9). Snow is expected to begin this evening and become moderate to heavy as the night goes along. Counties in the warned area are expected to see from four to eight inches of new snow, although isolated areas could see more than eight.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

The counties in blue are under a Winter Weather Advisory and are expecting lesser amounts.

According to the weather service, snow is expected to overspread the listening area Thursday afternoon and continue through at least midday on Friday. There's still uncertainty as to how much snow will fall. However, the National Weather Service says there's the potential of four to eight inches of the white stuff, just with this latest round. The highest amounts are expected to fall along and north of Highway 30. Lucky us.

CBS 2 Chief Meteorologist Terry Swails is expecting a LOT of snow before the upcoming weekend is over. Terry is expecting anywhere from six to as much as a FOOT of snow, according to his weather models.
