Enough is Enough...is the name of a organization fighting to protect children from the dangers of the web, part of this agenda is to bring an end to internet pornography. Recently Trump signed on to promise to take this fight to the next level. Namely focused on sexual exploitation and access to pornography. While there are some great ideas such as their "Friendly wifi" embraced by companies such as Starbucks and McDonalds, which prevent access to explicit material; there has been a growing controversy based on some broad word choices. So what does it say?

1) Uphold the rule of law by aggressively enforce (sic) existing federal laws to prevent the sexual exploitation of children online, including the federal obscenity laws, child pornography laws, sexual predation laws and the sex trafficking laws" - Enough.org

This sounds great, but what is a federal obscenity law? Thats how courts can decide what is offensive and what is okay using rules called The Miller Test. First laid out in 1973 with iller Vs. California, the rules are as follows and all three criteria must be met:

  • Whether the average person, applying contemporary community standards, would find that the work, taken as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest.
  • Whether the work depicts or describes, in a patently offensive way, sexual conduct specifically defined by the applicable state law.
  • Whether the work, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value.

Enough is Enough did not clarify what they would consider "obscene" but with Trumps recent signing on to promote and focus on these laws, could this mean banning material for adults? LGBTQ+ adults if deemed obscene? The 2016 Republican Party Platform identifies pornography as a “public health crisis that is destroying the lives of millions.” but is Trump really anti-porn? He has seemed to be pretty sexually liberal saying that the eighties were his "personal vietnam" trying to dodge getting an STDs, and is also known for having strong opinions on women through the years, a source of great controversy several from his book How To Get Rich. Do you think this is an issue Trump truly feels passionate about? Let us know!
