The Whirlpool Corporation has sold its refrigeration plant in Middle Amana.

According to our news partner, Iowa's News Now, Whirlpool has confirmed the sale of the plant for $92.7 million to a real estate holding company based in Chicago, Illinois. The good news is Whirlpool says the sale won't impact operations at the plant.

The Iowa County Assessor site shows the five parcels of land, that features five buildings, were sold to Whramia001 LLC on October 26. A Whirlpool spokesperson told Iowa's News Now that the company is committed to the plant and the community. Their statement went on to say,

The company recently sold our Amana plant to a real estate holding company and we have entered into a long-term lease with the new owners. This is a common business practice that allows companies to optimize their real estate portfolios. There are no short or long-term changes to Whirlpool Corporation’s current business operations in Amana.

Middle Amana has a long history with appliances. The Amana brand was formed in Amana Colonies town in 1934. Maytag purchased Amana in 2001, with Whirlpool Corporation acquiring Maytag just five years later. Eighty-six years after the plant first opened, a variety of products are still made in Middle Amana. They bear the brand names Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, JennAir, and of course, Amana.
