Doing some last minute holiday shopping online? You're not alone! Many of us will be hitting the web for some last minute deals and of course trying to get it all shipped here before Christmas. But hackers are also online trying to steal your information. Here are some things to remember during the last few crazy shopping days of 2016.

Cyber thieves will stop at nothing to get your information. A popular email scam this year are emails that appear as if they have been sent by UPS, Fedex, or whoever you may have shipped a package with. The email will say that your package has been delayed in shipping. But when you click on the link in the email, malware is installed on your computer that could access your username and password. If you use the same information for multiple accounts, you're in real trouble. DO NOT click on the link in the email. Go directly to the website to check on your package.

Experts also suggest online shopping with a credit card and not a debit card. If you get hacked, your debit card is tied to your bank account and while your bank will repay any money lost, it can take a lot longer to get that money back. Yes, we're recommending you use a credit card.

Finally, experts say shop at stores you know and trust. Big retailers like Amazon, Wal-Mart, and Target all spend millions of dollars to keep your information safe online. And while there is no guarantee that a smaller store you've never heard of will put you at risk, why take the chance? Happy shopping!
