Drug Take-Back Day returns to all 99 counties in Iowa this Saturday, October 26.

It happens yearly, and it's a chance for Iowans to return unused prescription drugs, safely and legally, no questions asked, in an effort to combat abuse and misuse of those drugs. It's not just limited to one day anymore either.

A growing number of law enforcement agencies and pharmacies are installing permanent take-back collection boxes so residents can dispose of their prescription drugs on their own time.

The places to do the drop-off on Saturday include the Hiawatha Police Department, the Linn County Sheriff's Office in both Cedar Rapids and Central City, and Cedar Rapids Police Department.

Needles, syringes and inhalers are not accepted, but items that will be taken now include vaping pens and devices, prescription medications, patches, ointments, medication for pets and over-the-counter drugs. Pills should be removed from their original containers and put in clear, sealed plastic bags.
