Utilities Board To Hear Arguments Against Alliant Energy

The Iowa Utilities Board has announced it will hold a hearing in early April regarding the proposed rate increases by Alliant Energy. The meeting will happen in Des Moines on April 1st and will look at whether the proposed rate increases by the company are reasonable.

A motion filed by the Office of Consumer Advocate back in March claimed that Alliant's calculations for the rate increases were too high and should be redone. Alliant filed a response saying that if the rate is found to be unreasonable at the end of the full proceedings, which are expected to last well into 2019, then refunds could be issued at that time by the company.

The OCA and Alliant will both present their cases over the dispute into the interim rates. They'll also examine whether the Iowa Board of Utilities has the authority to reduce the rate increase and just how that would happen.
