A spokesperson with Toyota Financial Services told the Cedar Rapids Gazette that the company will relocate it's Cedar Rapids customer service center within the next two years. That will put some 600 people locally out of work.

Toyota announced that it would be consolidating it's customer service locations from six, including Cedar Rapids, down to three. The Plano, Texas location will cover the central region of the United States. A spokesperson for the company told the Gazette that every employee who is in good standing will be offered a role at one of the other customer service centers. Most would be offered jobs in Texas, but others could go elsewhere.

Toyota officials stressed that the job relocations will not happen all at once. They want to have the bulk of them done within the next two years. Officials with the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance call Toyota's move "very unfortunate." Ron Corbett, a member of the CRMEA told the Gazette, "To lose one of your signature employers like this is not good news. This is why you always need to put your foot on the gas bringing in new jobs."
