Last year it was the farewell tour for Tony Stewart in NASCAR. Tony announced late in 2015 that the 2016 season would be his last on the NASCAR circuit. Now if you thought that Tony Stewart would retire completely from racing, you don't know a true race car driver very well. We never truly retire.

Tony Stewart Racing announced that Tony will be hitting the dirt tracks racing over 70 times this summer. Stewart told MotorSports.com,

"I’m looking forward to all the stuff we’re going to do this year — dirt late model racing, sprint car racing. I’m building a three-quarter midget to run a couple of fair races this year... There are some tracks that I’ve never been to that I’m going to get a chance to go to on our schedule. We’re up to 71 races, and I’m guessing we’re going to get another 10 to 15 more races on the schedule before it’s all said and done.

One of Tony's many favorite races is the annual Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey's General Stores in Knoxville, Iowa. The race is scheduled for September 14 thru 16. Will Tony be there? We'll know more once his full schedule is released.

Tony's father, Nelson Stewart, in his 70's, still races today in the INEX Legends division at tracks in the Midwest including Hawkeye Downs and Dubuque. Could Tony tag along with dad to some of those events? We will see this summer.
