Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Kick Off Summer 2017 Tour: Video, Set List
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers opened their 40th anniversary tour last night in Oklahoma City, delivering a career-spanning set that delivered a hefty helping of classic hits along with a handful of surprises.
Theyll play at Wells Fargo Arena on June 5
Of particular interest to longtime fans is the set's opening number, "Rockin' Around (With You)," which leads off the group's 1976 debut LP — and which doesn't seem to have made its way into a Petty and the Heartbreakers set list for more than 30 years. As is planned for most dates on the already-expanded itinerary, Joe Walsh opened the show with a supporting set.
Although Petty has hinted that the 40th anniversary shows might serve as his final extended tour trek, guitarist Mike Campbell isn't ready to stop — and he doesn't think Petty is either. "Tom is really happy. The band is playing great. I think we're sounding better than we've ever sounded, and we're inspired," said Campbell prior to the tour's launch. "It's very exciting for us. And the band is really rising to the occasion and everybody is in a great place right now. I think we can keep going for awhile."
