It doesn't matter if you're new to Iowa, or a lifelong resident, you're likely to learn new facts about the state from time to time. Facts you didn't know, and maybe didn't even think could be tied to our state.

Today I have three facts about our state for you that I'm going to bet you didn't know. No, it's not that hogs outnumber human heads 4 to 1. Many, dare I say most Iowans know that.

Let's dive in, with lesser-known Iowa fact number one.

Iowa has the third-highest motorcycle ownership in the nation.

I think we all know Iowans love bikes. We have RAGBRAI each summer and tons of amazing trails. But, according to Only In Your State, Iowa is home to a heck of a lot of motorcycles too.

It really shouldn't be a shock, other than climate limitations, Iowa is a wonderful place for motorcycling. We have plenty of scenic and rural areas, perfect for a ride.

Iowa fact number 2 is a really pretty neat one.

Iowa was home to the first female lawyer in the United States

Arabella Mansfield became the very first female lawyer in the country back in 1869, according to the Iowa Department of Human Rights. Mansfield was admitted to the Iowa bar in Henry County.

Manfield was born Belle Aurelia Babb in Benton Township, Iowa, n May 23, 1846. Manfield was active in the women's suffrage movement. She passed away on August 1, 1911, at age 65.

The red, white, and blue in the state flag of Iowa is a tribute to France

'Merica... the red, white and blue! Iowa... the blue, white, and red. Those colors are in that order for a reason, it's a nod to France. Oh, and the reason the stripes are verticle is for that same reason.

While a strong ally of the United States, it does seem odd, doesn't it? Shouting out the French on our state flag. Rewind to 1803 and the Louisiana Purchase. This was the land deal between the U.S. and France.

See the similarities:
