2022 is the year of the superhero. Spider-Man: No Way Home is still destroying it at the box office, and DC fans are loving the newest incarnation of Gotham's greatest hero.

The past few years have been preparing fans for a superhero renaissance.

First, we saw the release of the awards show darling WandaVision. The episodes followed two of the lesser-known characters from the Avengers franchise with some nods to classic television shows like Bewitched and Modern Family.

Here Are The Heroes that Call Iowa Home

Jason Momoa ~ Aquaman

Momoa starred in the title role of the 2018 superhero flick 'Aquaman' and played the same character in D.C.'s two 'Justice League' films. He is expected to return for an Aquaman sequel sometime next year, according to Insider.

While Iowa might not be the best place to find the king of the seas, it was a great place from young Momoa to grow up in. The A-list actor grew up in Norwalk, Iowa and frequently makes stops back to his hometown.

He even was spotted hitting up a few restaurants in Des Moines after the Academy Awards last month.

Hawkeye/Clint Barton

Clint Barton aka Hawkeye is from the Cedar Valley. Portrayed by Jeremy Renner, Hawkeye spends his childhood working in his father's butcher shop in the town of Waverly.

His parents end up dying in a tragic car accident which caused him to spend some time in an orphanage.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character is considered one of the original Avengers.

He made his debut in the original film Avengers in 2012. Barton has appeared in five of the superhero flicks over the past decade.

There is no word on when we will next see this hero on our screens. Fans predict that he will not be featured in the upcoming Doctor Strange flick which is set to premiere this summer.

The show Hawkeye is currently streaming on Disney +.

George Reeves ~ Superman

Reeves is often called television's original Superman. He played the title role on the show Adventures of Superman in the 1950s. This Kryptonian actually is a Woolstock, Iowa native.

After his parents divorced when he was a young boy, he made the big move to California.

Mystery surrounds the death of the actor. Some rule his untimely passing a suicide, but others still speculate that something else was afoot.

Brandon Routh ~ Superman

Another Man of Steel from right here in the great state of Iowa! Born in Des Moines, Brandon Routh starred in only one Superman movie the 2006 flicj 'Superman Returns.' His performance as the superhero  is frequently referenced as one of the best depictions of Superman.

He grew up playing soccer with Aquaman in Norwalk. The two superheroes actually played on the same high school soccer team.

Momoa and Routh both played on the Norwalk High School soccer team, according to the Des Moines Register.

Aquaman was on the team from 1994-1997, while Superman took to the field from 1995-1998. I would have loved to see this scene in any of the cruddy Justice League movies.
