The ROSE is the Internet’s Next Big Brain Teaser
There is an old saying that we "rarely see ourselves as others see us".
Like a sharp blade, the meaning has two very fine edges. One is that we fail to see the good in ourselves and sometimes focus on the negative. Conversely, our less-than-good qualities are points that we often ignore or even deny.
In this case, there is a third meaning: we sometimes simply cannot see what oftentimes is right in front of us.
This is the case of the hidden rose in these three pictures. This Daily Mail article caught my eye today and I quickly became obsessed with "finding the rose".
The story says that Harvard scientists designed three brainteasers that challenge the way we look at things. If you've ever had a moment where you've searched for something, like a set of misplaced keys, you may discover that they were right there, in plain sight all along. How could I have overlooked that?
The researchers explain that we often overlook the obvious because our brains might be giving us a limited perspective of what it is we are seeking. In the case of the rose...well, you should try it for yourself.
I am always up for a great brain teaser and this one is so good it may actually teach me something about myself and the way that I "see" things.
More importantly, in a very literal sense, it also reminds me of that old saying, that we "rarely see ourselves as others see us".
For me, it's always good to remind myself that there is good in each of us, despite the not-so-good thoughts and actions that often obstruct me from being the best version of myself that I can be.
With all the craziness going on in the world today, it's good to remember that we're all in this together. And that a rose by any other name, is still a rose.
