At least we can spell the name of our own state...

In case you didn't know (because I didn't), The Scripps National Spelling Bee is going on through this Sunday. Kids from all over the country are taking part in this massive competition, spelling words that I've never even HEARD before!

In honor of spelling week, Google Trends posted a map with the most misspelled word for each state. Some of them are understandable, but some of them are absolutely RIDICULOUS. I'm looking at you, Wisconsin. I mean, how do people in Wisconsin not know how to spell the name of their own state?! Come on!

Luckily, Iowa's isn't that bad. Apparently our most misspelled word is "vacuum." Is it one "c" and two "u"s? Or the other way around? Or two of each? I get it. It can be confusing.

Here are the most misspelled words for some of our Midwest neighbors:

  • Illinois - Appreciate
  • Minnesota - Beautiful
  • Missouri - Maintenance (had to spell check that one!)
  • Nebraska - Suspicious
  • South Dakota - College
