The City of Cedar Rapids is Looking to Fill Summer Job Positions
Looking for a summer job? The city of Cedar Rapids has some openings!
According to KCRG, the city has been struggling to fill their 250 summer positions for the past few years due to low-unemployment rates, so they are trying something new for 2019! The city will be hosting a job fair on Saturday.
I know it seems a little soon to be thinking about summer, but some of the positions the city is hiring for require a bit of training. Lifeguards, for example. Some of the other openings include jobs at the golf courses, parks, and day camps, as well as maintenance workers. Most openings are for ages 16 and up, but they do note that lifeguards can be certified at the age of 15.
The CR Parks and Recreation Director Scott Hock told KCRG that summer jobs are a great way to gain experience and make friends, plus they look good on college applications. I worked at a concession stand at my hometown's city pool and sports complex when I was a teenager, and I remember it being a lot of fun! I got to work with my friends, make easy money, and eat a TON of nachos without ever gaining any weight. Those were the days!
If you're interested in one of the city's summer positions, they are hiring for both part-time and full-time work. The job fair will be held this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the downtown library. Get more information on the open positions and fill out an application HERE.
