Usually you're not going to get away with lying to the police, but it typically doesn't go this bad.

Michigan State Police said they noticed a vehicle parked with its lights off on the shoulder of the highway around 6:30am.

When troopers activated the lights, the 30-year-old man in the passenger seat ducked down below view, which is obviously a red flag to police officers.

The officer spoke with the 29-year-old driver, and when speaking with the passenger, he provided a fake name.

Sometimes the fake name trick works, but when officers ran the fake name, it bounced back saying there were outstanding warrants, so the guy ended up in cuffs anyway.

Outside of the vehicle, officers noted multiple soda cans and lottery tickets.

After taking the suspect to the Wexford County Jail, authorities discovered he had attempted to sneak more drugs with him.

The true identity of the man was found after being fingerprinted. He was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, smuggling drugs into jail, lying to a peace officer during a felony and littering.
