We've had a good amount of snow during this pretty harsh winter. If you're like me, you've probably been out snow blowing a good amount of it off your sidewalk and driveway. Well, if you're enjoying a very new snow blower, make sure you check to make sure it wasn't just recalled.

Toro has just issued a recall for 6,700 of its machines. The reason is quite severe, too. The company says the auger can fail to disengage when the control lever is released, posing an amputation hazard.

Here's more information on what is being recalled.

  • Toro Power Max Snowthrowers that were sold from November 2020 through January 2021 for about $1,200.
  • Models recalled is the Toro Power Max 826 OHAE Snowthrower, Model 37802 (see photo here)
  • Repair will be done at no cost, consumers should immediately stop using the device and contact a Toro authorized dealer for a free repair. 
  • Contact Toro at 833-254-8856 to access the 24-hour Toro Dealer locator system, or online at www.toro.com/locator to locate a Toro authorized service dealer (there appears to be 7 in northeast Iowa).
  • Sold at Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and Toro Authorized Dealers nationwide and online at www.homedepot.comwww.acehardware.com, and www.toro.com all sold the recalled models.

As always, if you have any concerns and cannot tell if your device is a part of the recall, you should call the company at 833-254-8856, or if you can, take the machine to an authorized dealer.
