It was one year ago today that with deep sadness that we inform our listeners of the passing of our dear friend and colleague Gregg Scharnau.

Gregg, affectionately known as "Shark" died of cancer today following a year-long courageous battle. His illness forced him to retire from radio this past July.

Gregg was a Cedar Rapids Radio legend, having served 18 years at KRNA, 14 years as Program Director.

In addition to programming the radio station and hosting afternoon drive on KRNA, Gregg also served as midday air personality on our sister station 104.5 KDAT.

Our friend was a loving father of four and a devoted husband to Susan. Our collective hearts are aching as we send loving prayers to his family at this difficult time.

On Wednesday morning December 21 we will honor Shark with radio friends and co-workers sharing their memorable moments with his audience.  Today we honor his memory and dedicate our broadcast to him.

Gregg was a very private person, and never wanted his illness to become the center of the conversation, which is why the reason for his recent departure in July was never really disclosed to the radio audience.

We ask you to share your thoughts, prayers, photos, memories and comments with us, so that he and his family will know how much he meant to us.
