The city of Cedar Rapids will have one less restaurant come December. According to a new article from KCRG, Popoli Ristorante & Sullivan’s Bar will be closing its doors for good next month.

The announcement was made on Popoli's official Facebook page earlier today, November 12th. The restaurant revealed that their final day in business will be on December 20th and they thanked customers for all their support over the past six years. They also spoke about how proud they were of the restoration work they did on the building after the flood of 2008. The post reads:

"The restaurant portion of the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designed by the famous architect, Louis Sullivan, for Peoples Bank in 1910. The Iconic Vault Room and Doors, the Murals, the Stained Glass, the Chandeliers, the Teller Bars, the Marble, and the many other unique architectural features were restored and maintained for many to enjoy while dining at Popoli."

The post also states that the decision to close was not an easy one, but it is a difficult time for restaurants everywhere. They hope to find another use for the building that "honors the historic significance and beauty of the building and interior."

We had our Townsquare Media Christmas party at Popoli's just last year and the food was phenomenal (as you can see from the photos below)! The restaurant will definitely be missed by many here in the Cedar Rapids area.
