Police Find That Man Has Alligator Passenger, But This Is Not A Florida Man Story

Police say they found an alligator for a passenger and co-pilot in his car, after being led on a short chase by the man behind the wheel. Normally, this is easy to assume as a "Florida Man" story, however, this is on the opposite side of the country.

Authorities in Michigan say they attempted a traffic stop led to a short pursuit with a driver, and the surprising discovery of his co-pilot.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post that one of their sergeants tried to stop a vehicle on Saturday, which they said was "traveling at a high rate of speed" on U.S. 10 in the Webber Township area.

Officials say the vehicle fled the stop, which started a brief chase that ended with the suspect vehicle getting stuck between two trees on the Rails-To-Rails pathway.

The driver, a 40-year-old man, was arrested on multiple charges, and deputies determined he had "several warrants from another jurisdiction."

Deputies discovered the passenger of the vehicle had a "passenger," an alligator deputies immediately named "Karen."

Karen "attempted to flee the scene, but was taken into custody after a short scuffle," the Sheriff's Office Facebook post said. "Karen is not facing any charges at this time. We believe she was an unwilling participant during the incident, nor do we believe she was ever in control of the vehicle."

It's kind of cool to see how they wrangled this non-native critter. You can see the officers using the strobe feature on their flashlight to disorient her, so they have time to catch her.
