An investigation continues after an officer-involved shooting in Iowa City on Monday afternoon. It happened near the intersection of Riverside Drive and Ruppert Road, just south of Highway 6.

It started with officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at 11 Highway 1 West. A suspect was then located nearby, away from the business. As the investigation continued, an Iowa City police officer was shot multiple times with a weapon and received injuries to the face. That weapon was later discovered to be a BB gun. The officer fired his weapon and hit the suspect. Both the officer and the shooter were transported to a local hospital. They were listed in stable condition last night.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident. The agency is responsible for looking into all officer-involved shootings that happen in the state of Iowa. The northbound lanes of Riverside Drive were closed for several hours during the incident. They have since reopened.
