A friend of the family contacted my wife Holly and told her she had a record that she just knew that I would want. It was the original 1977 soundtrack to the movie Star Wars. A piece of movie history to be sure. It is also a piece of history involving the greatest movie composer of all time, John Williams. Perhaps you recognize his name, maybe not. But you DO know his music.

John Williams has scored some of the most famous and iconic movie themes of all time. There is no one else even close to him. Let's go ahead and name a few of his greatest hits. Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Superman, Jurrasic Park, E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Hook, Schindler's List, Harry Potter, and countless others. He also composed music for NBC Nightly News and The Today Show, not to mention the iconic Olympic March used during the Olympic games. Yes, you might say that John Williams is a legend.

I've been drawn to his music through the movies I've grown to love. There is perhaps no more iconic a score than that of Star Wars. The main theme. The Imperial March. But it isn't my favorite Williams theme. That would go to the suite from Jurrasic Park.

If you want to experience the magic of the music of John Williams, Orchestra Iowa will be having two performances at the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids this spring. 'John Williams: A Night at the Movies' will be performed Saturday, May 20th at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 21st at 2:30 p.m. For tickets and more information click HERE!
