What if one pill could help you entire household sleep better?

If you're one of many millions of Americans who keeps the house up with your loud snoring, a new drug with clinical trials could save save your sleep.

A 2018 study from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston found a once-a-night tablet that combined two non-sleep drugs effectively reduced snoring for 20 volunteers by 74%. It took breathing sleep interruptions from 28.5 an hour to 7.5.

The pill seems to work very well, which is why it's now being put to the test in a clinical trial, by Apnimed.

Snoring is caused by facial muscles relaxing during sleep, which creates a narrow opening for air to pass through for breathing. The sound comes from the mouth's tissues vibrating as air forces its way through.

While everyone snores sometimes, about 22 million people suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea, which is most prevalent in those overweight or regularly engage in heavy alcohol consumption over the age of 40. OSA causes the deprivation of sufficient oxygen levels.

This drug may help many, especially those with OSA, thereby saving lives.
