Cedar Rapids is in for a big treat, and opening day is this Friday, October 16. Feedwell Kitchen & Bakery is ready to open its doors to the public.

The first thing you'll notice about the new Cedar Rapids eatery, owned by a longtime employee of the Kirkwood Community College Culinary Department and a recent graduate of the Kirkwood baking program, is the pastries. Julie and I got a sneak peek at the new restaurant last weekend, and the large cinnamon rolls caught my eye, and tastebuds, immediately. Julie enjoyed a cherry danish, one of the items that will feature seasonal fruits. They also offer pies, sure to be popular with the holiday season almost here.

Feedwell also has breakfast items, including the fantastic one we had, known as "The Fieldwell." It features egg, grilled vegetables, and herb aioli on honey wheat bread. There's also a Quinoa Bowl, Grain Bowl, and other options. As you can see, there's plenty of healthy choices.

In the mood for a salad? Choices include the Roasted Beet and Butternut, Kale & Apple Walnut, Grilled Vegetable Quinoa, Mediterranean Chickpea, and Chimichurristeak. Seasonal soups will also soon be available. You can see specifics on many of their menu items in the photos below.

Feedwell also has an extensive coffee menu with plenty of hot and cold choices.

The new eatery is also committed to locally-sourced items like apples from a local orchard and milk from a corridor creamery. They'll also be featuring art from local artists, in the dining area.

Feedwell Kitchen and Bakery is located in Boyson Square at 560 Boyson Road N.E., Suite A. Starting hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Closed on Mondays.
