We're always telling you about the great restaurants in eastern Iowa. New eateries opening in Cedar Rapids and Waterloo/Cedar Falls. Great menu items, award-winning chefs, etc.

This story however may evoke some jealousy. A pretty prestigious publication called Food & Wine has named America's next great food cities. When you think of great food cities, you likely immediately think of New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, right? Maybe several other megapolises like Dallas, Miami, and Pheonix also pop into your mind.

Well, on this new list has a city in neighboring Nebraska with fewer than 500,000 people.

Yep, it's Omaha, Nebraska that is one of the next great food cities according to Food & Wine.

What is Omaha best known for food-wise? Well, the Reuben sandwich was invented there. If you aren't familiar, that's a sandwich with pumpernickel or rye bread that has butter on it. It's then stuffed with corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing. It then gets pressed and grilled.

Food & Wine not only shout-outs the Reuben, but gives props to various other dining options and eateries in the trendy city. I guess they also have a pretty amazing ice cream parlor. You can read more about why they're one of the top food cities here.

Other cities new to the list include:

  • Boise, Idaho
  • Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Tucson, Arizona

Sadly, no Iowa cities made the list. Should we be jealous? As a guy who doesn't miss many meals, I say naww. We have great options here. But still, a road trip to Omaha, anyone?
