Cedar Rapids is really trying what it can to make Mt. Trashmore more appealing as a local attraction. First, there was the overlook trail, where you could go to get a closer view of Trashmore and the city, and now a new rec center on the grounds is being proposed.

An existing, vacant building on the grounds at Mt. Trashmore is where the proposed facility for staff and visitors would be located.  Bids are now being taken to create it, including new parking, pedestrian, sidewalks, utilities, and fencing.

The estimated cost of the project is $1 million and they hope to have it started in October, with completion planned next May.

Does anyone have a desire to work out or hang out at the local landfill, especially with the trail already there? I've been a resident of Cedar Rapids for 30 years and I don't really get it.
