A series of homes on Cedar Rapids' southeast side are in need of saving, and they're free to anyone who can move them.

The four houses are located on Fairway Terrace SE, across from the tennis courts of the Cedar Rapids Country Club. Therein lies the problem. The Country Club has plans to move its tennis courts across Fairway Terrace, to where the homes now sit. In the area where the homes are now will be an indoor tennis facility and parking lot. The Cedar Rapids City Council approved the plan in June.

The Cedar Rapids Country Club and Save CR Heritage are working together, hoping to save the four homes along Fairway Terrace SE. According to KCRG, a fifth home that was damaged during the derecho, has already been removed.

The remaining houses are at 418, 424, 430, and 444 Fairway Terrace SE. They're the four homes in the photo at the top of this story and in the photos below. Each house will be given to anyone who pays to have it moved. According to Cindy Hadish of Save CR Heritage, the cost to move each home is expected to be around $100,000. Hadish told KCRG that each house, all of which were built between 1938 and 1940, is worth approximately $200,000.

The four houses each have a fireplace, and at least two of them have sunrooms. Hardwood floors are common in them, as well. You can see photos of the houses below. If you or someone you know is interested in moving one of the homes, you should contact Tom from the Cedar Rapids Country Club at (319) 363-9673. The hope is to have the homes moved by May 1, 2023.
