Midwest Video Game Collection Could Be Worth Millions
This sort of sounds like an episode of "Storage Wars". If you've never seen that show, it's where bidders battle it out to purchase the contents of storage units, sight unseen, in the hopes of finding something of enormous value and/or historical significance.
Chris Thompson is the owner of Gameroom in Omaha and he tells KETV that he stumbled across a massive collection of classic video games through an anonymous owner. The collection went into storage after another game store went out of business, reportedly sometime in the late '90s. After observing this collection, his semi-expert opinion is that it could be worth millions of dollars.
"Potentially worth millions of dollars". That's a bold claim, even for someone of Thompson's knowledge level on the subject. He is working with experts who can appraise what he says is "hundreds, potentially over 1,000" factory-sealed games to determine the true value and to eventually preserve them. He can say for certain that there's at least one specific game in the collection which, if it's in even average condition, could alone be worth up to $300
Chrono Trigger is the one that's getting the most commentary, Chrono Trigger is a game that a cartridge by itself in average conditions were $200 to $300,”
(*NOTE: Above is a replicated photo of a game in this story and not the exact copy of the game mentioned.)
It's going to be a long, arduous task for those video game specialists to sort through, but we know the video game lovers in the audience are drooling as we speak, and we'll be sure to keep you posted as to the outcome and when/if you can get your hands on any piece of this gaming history.
