Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine Diagnosed With Throat Cancer, Cancels 2019 Tour
There's no easy way to put it - Megadeth's Dave Mustaine has been diagnosed with throat cancer. The announcement came from a post on his Instagram.
"I've been diagnosed with throat cancer," the band's founder begins. "It’s clearly something to be respected and faced head on - but I’ve faced obstacles before. I’m working closely with my doctors, and we’ve mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun."
With the news comes the obvious cancellation of the band's 2019 tour dates, but he assures their inaugural Megacruise will still happen, and "the band will be a part of it in some form." Anthrax, Testament, Overkill and more will be performing on the cruise.
While the frontman says Megadeth will be back on the road as soon as they can, he states they are still in the studio working on their next album. All updates have been posted on the band's website. Read Mustaine's full statement below.
Earlier this month, Megadeth announced a special 25th anniversary show in honor of their record Youthanasia. They were also set to go on a tour this summer, but Mustaine's primary focus needs to be on his health for the time being. We wish him all the best for a full and speedy recovery.
