Marshalltown Casey’s Store Murder Suspect Pleads Not Guilty
In the early morning hours of Monday February 15th Rocky Trujillo III was caught on surveillance video, walking into the Casey's convenience store located on North Third Avenue in Marshalltown.
Cops say it was around 3:00 a.m. when he first came through the doors and made his way toward the cash register in an apparent robbery attempt. He then shot dead 48 year old Michael West, a store employee.
Police spoke to witnesses who said they also saw him hold a gun to one customer's head, demanding their cell phone. He then assaulted another store employee before making his exit.
Police caught up with Rocky later the same day and put the cuffs on him.
Trujillo is charged with first degree murder, two counts of robbery, going armed with intent, trafficking in stolen weapons, and assault while participating in a felony.
Iowa's News Now reports that he pleaded not guilty at his appearance in court on Monday March 8 at the Marshall County Courthouse. He's on ice for the next few months with a court date set to start August 10.
The Marshalltown Police and other area agencies worked swiftly to get this suspect off the streets. For that, you can thank a cop. For them it's all part of the job that is often shockingly brutal and senseless.
