KCRG has uncovered what it calls a "personnel matter" within the Marion Police Department.

An investigation is ongoing into why the department has hired an outside civil rights attorney. Deputy police chief Doug Slagle has recently submitted his resignation, following that of Chief Joe McHale. No one in the department is saying anything more about the resignations or the investigation. For his part, Slagle says his resignation was "purely personal".

Attorney Fran Haas is the lawyer in question and reports say her firm handles sex discrimination and Title 9 cases.

Marion City Manager, Lon Pluckhahn spoke to KCRG expressing his cofidence in the police department but saying little about the investigation other than commenting that the city council has little or no involvement in the matter.
