On a day we honor all first responders for their dedicated and dangerous work, 18 years after the attacks on 9/11, local firefighters and officials in Marion broke ground on a new facility of their own.

The future site is at 100 Irish Drive in Marion, on the southwest corner of Tower Terrace Road and Irish Drive.

We know that the working environment and the safety of firefighters are of utmost importance. The design was created with that concept at heart. It will incorporate "biophilic design elements, decontamination, and training areas, as well as the department’s administrative offices. The facility also includes a community safe room/storm shelter and the City’s disaster emergency operations center."

The addition of the third station will also serve as department headquarters and improve their response time for fire and medical service.

Best wishes and thanks to the city of Marion, their firefighters, and those making it possible to have this station up and running by October 2020.
