Local Schools and Police Training to Counter Attacks
Long before this week's deadly mass shooting in Florida, many of our local law enforcement agencies and area schools had developed plans and have trained for the possibility of an attack breaking out in our hometown schools and workplaces.
With tensions heightened, area cops now implore staff and students how best to engage during a hysterical outbreak like the one that just occurred in Florida this week.
One bit of advice that stands out is that police recommend students and teachers need to know when to fight back, because, sadly, that's exactly what may be necessary to save their own lives.
CBS2 News reports Cedar Rapids School Superintendent Dr. Brad Buck saying students train at least once a semester to know the plan for a shooter in the school.
It's a sad commentary of our society today that we need to take time away from productive learning moments to train on what to do in case of an attack.
