Reports say that about 20 livestock (pigs and sheep) were killed this weekend as a result of a barn fire in Black Hawk County.

Fire officials say it happened 8602 W. First Street about a mile west outside the city limits of Cedar Falls around 6 p.m. Saturday night. A windy couple of days on Friday and Saturday were partially to blame, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation and no human lives were lost or injured in the fire. A passerby initially noticed the blaze and alerted officials who said it was "fully involved" by the time they arrived. Fire crews from New Hartford, Parkersburg, Dike and Stout were also called to assist at the scene.

In addition to the loss of livestock, a farm building was totally destroyed. We are sorry to hear of the loss and damage to this farmer and his property and will keep you updated if new information becomes available.
