Aerial footage from a news chopper caught the moment a seizure of illegal fireworks went off in the truck, ripping it apart.

The blast shook the area of East 27th Street in Los Angeles around 7:30pm Wednesday night after police had spent hours confiscating nearly 5,000 pounds of fireworks from a home.

Many of the devices had been loaded into an armored container on a police semi that read "L.A. BOMB SQUAD" where police had decided to detonate them "In a controlled manner," according to LAPD Lt. Raul Jovel.

But, the detonation wasn't as controlled as they hope. "we had catastrophic failure of one of our trucks,” he said.

The Sky5 helicopter caught the video of the detonation that failed when the semi-truck burst into flames.

“That was not supposed to happen. That truck is destroyed,” reacted KTLA’s Colton von Pertz, who was reporting from the Sky5 at the time, according to KTLA.

17 people were injured, 10 of them LAPD officers.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
