A guitar used by Kurt Cobain during Nirvana's final tour is going to auction.  The black and white Fender Stratocaster is projected to sell for around $140,000.  The seller says the guitar wasn't used for playing during the final tour, but instead was part of the "end-of-set jamming and destruction" at Nirvana concerts.

Apparently, Fender shipped Kurt a few lefty black and white Strats to be used for smashing up, as they were cheap and they were scared he would smash his more expensive guitars.  A couple guitars, including this one going to auction, were smashed, repaired and still playable.

This isn't the first time something belonging to Cobain has hit the auction block.  In the past, Kurts's green cardigan that he wore during the MTV Unplugged in New York and a lock of his hair have been sold.

Another item up for auction at Cooper Owen is a self-portrait John Lennon painted in 1958. The auction for the Cobain guitar and Lennon painting ends May 20th.
