Want to know my secret, Cap?  I'm always stressed.

Every day, we deal with different stresses in our lives.  It could be from work, family, coworkers, traffic, bosses, health, work, money, work...whatever it is, it's not good for us to be so stressed out as a society. For some, it can cause real physical and mental problems.  For others, we roll with it.

According to a new study, Iowa doesn't have to stress about stress as much as most other states.

In this study, WalletHub used work, money, family, and health to rank the states.  Once the numbers were added up, they found that Louisiana is the most stressed state in America.  This is in large part because it has the highest poverty rate in the country. Around 16% of residents haven’t seen a doctor in the past year due to the cost.

You'd think the least stressed state would be Hawaii.  Living on a tropical island.  Where is the stress?  Have you been to Hawaii?  It's a big city on what used to be a tropical island.  But it falls in number 39.  So the beach helps.

The least stressed state in America is South Dakota.  Sure, the factors they used make sense as to why South Dakota would have the least amount of stress.  But, for me, the blistering cold would be enough to shoot the stress level right to the top of the list.

Where do Iowa and Illinois rank on the most stressed states list?

As one would expect, Illinois has more stress than Iowa.  I blame Chicago.  Even if you don't live there, one simple drive on any of the highways, you understand what real stress is all about.

Illinois actually ranks well in the work stress level at number 7 in the country.  Probably cause they spend more time in their car than they do at actual work.

Welcome to the stress-free corn fields of Iowa!  Iowa ranks as the 41st most stressed state.  Or, guess I should say, least stressed.  All the factors in the study of Iowa do well.  But where Iowa really does well is with family related stres, ranking at number 45.  I guess we all get along.

Chip Lupo of Wallethub says, "There are plenty of small ways for people to manage stress, from staying active and participating in hobbies to taking vacations from work and getting help from a mental health professional. What many people don’t realize, though, is that changing location can also be a big stress reducer. For example, states that have lower crime rates, better health care, and better economies tend to have much less stressed residents.”
