When I was about 6 years old, my older brother and I were fishing off of the dock by our family's hunting cabin. On one of his casts, he ended up accidentally snagging a turtle. He reeled in the turtle and had our dad help him unsnag the poor guy and set him back to live amongst his turtle family.

One of the most exciting things about fishing is that you never really know what's going to show up at the end of your line when you have a bite. Depending on where you're fishing, you could have a general idea of what you're trying to catch but you don't really know what's going to be on your line until you get the fish in the boat.

There are also times when you're fishing, you don't even need a fishing pole to bring something home to show your family. Erik Koffski is a Minnesotan who has a new best friend that he never planned on having.

I think it would be fair to say that this cat actually caught Erik and a new family.

Never Wanted a Cat But We Want Him

Erik was fishing a few weeks ago when he heard a meowing off into the distance and he didn't think much of it. Maybe a family let their cat out or there was a stray that was just exploring near the water when all of a sudden, this cat swam to him on his fishing board.

Simply put, the cat has been with Erik ever since.

Erik and his wife spoke with FOX9 about the family's new pet and best friend. One of Erik's sons said "Fisher" would be the perfect name for him and Fisher is now one of the family.

Erik told FOX9 "Some things just happen and you don't get to question them, it just happens."

Erik's wife also added "There were bigger things at play and I think that he was meant to find Erik, for whatever that means. He was meant to come here. We didn't want a cat but we want him."

My wife and I own too many cats and there is something I find so special about this story. I wouldn't call myself a cat person either. I like my cats but I don't really care for anyone else's...if that makes sense.

I don't think cat owners really "own" their cats. I think it's probably the other way around. Cats have people for pets. Congratulations to Fisher on finding his new family.
