Let’s talk Wisconsin.

Cheese curds? Iconic. Waterparks? Oh, they’ve got more than their fair share. It’s a state that knows how to entertain and as a Minnesotan, I’ve crossed the border plenty of times to soak it all in.

I grew up vacationing in the Dells, but not in those fancy hotels you see in the commercials. We were more of a campground-and-cabin kind of crew. Campfires at night, water slides by day, and just hoping your wristband actually worked for everything it promised.

These days, I'm still popping over to hit up some of my favorite wineries, grab a case of Spotted Cow for the hubby, and of course, a bag of squeaky cheese curds for the ride home.

So when I came across a list from Love Exploring naming the most overrated tourist attractions in each state, I had to see which Wisconsin hotspot got called out. And... oof, this is a big one. And definitely one of my faves!

This Wisconsin Tourist Hotspot Now Considered Most Overrated:

Common gripes include sky-high prices, huge crowds, long lines, and not-so-great customer service. Some guests say it’s chaotic and underwhelming, with more stress than splash.

According to the research, the most overrated tourist attraction in Wisconsin is none other than Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park Resort. What? NO WAY!

Mt. Olympus has always been my go-to in the Dells, so I was definitely surprised to see it land on the “overrated” list. The resort has both indoor and outdoor waterparks, towering slides, a lazy river, roller coasters, and go-kart tracks, but according to many reviewers, it’s not worth all the hype.

Maybe it’s grown too fast, or maybe it’s just not what it used to be. What do you think?

ICYMI: One Wisconsin Waterpark is Getting a Massive $85-Million Expansion

Regardless of these negative reviews, with 4 to 5 million people visiting the Dells every year, I’d say waterpark season is still very much alive and kicking.

The Most Popular Outdoor Midwest Water Parks to Visit This Summer

To put together our list of the most popular water parks, we took a look at parks with a 4.4-star or higher rating on Google and 500 or more total reviews (additional water parks with 4+ stars are listed at the end). Some of them are MASSIVE water parks with a seemingly endless number of slides and attractions, while others are small (but very nice!) aquatic parks run by city governments. Whatever type of park you're looking for, you have plenty of options!
