California Murder Suspect Arrested During Traffic Stop In Galesburg
You never know what police officers are going to find during a traffic stop.
Last week in Galesburg, Illinois, what appeared to be a routine stop on Interstate 74 quickly turned into something much bigger when officers discovered the driver was wanted in connection with a homicide investigation out in California.
A California Criminal Made An Escape To Galesburg
According to the Galesburg Police, the driver was identified as 50-year-old Timothy Johnson. When officers checked his information, they learned authorities in Los Angeles County were looking for him on an active warrant. Instead of continuing down the highway, Johnson's trip ended right there on the side of I-74.
But that wasn't the only surprise.
Finding Weapons
Another man was riding in the vehicle, and when officers searched the car, they reportedly found a loaded handgun that had been stolen from Washington state. That discovery led to additional arrests and charges.
Both men were taken to the Knox County Jail following the stop. While Johnson is being held as California officials work through the extradition process, court records indicate he has already agreed to return to California without fighting the transfer in court.
Who Was The Passenger?
The passenger, 40-year-old Rafael Lambert, is facing several weapon-related charges tied to the firearm found in the vehicle. He has since been released from custody and is expected back in court next month.
It's one of those stories that sounds like something straight out of a crime drama. Sometimes a simple pull-over ends up uncovering a whole lot more than anyone expected.
