Iowa Man Facing 5 Felony Assaults On Police, Then Drinks Before Arrest

This man appears to be in a whole lotta trouble. Here's what we know.

Authorities say it all started at approximately 11:30 p.m. Monday night when 55-year-old Robert I. Ware was spotted in a vehicle outside a Walgreens store in the 1600 block of W. Locust St. in Davenport. Believing there was a warrant for Ware, police surrounded the vehicle he was driving. They activated emergency lights when they did so. That's when the 'fun' really started.

According to the Davenport Police Department report, Ware then began to "drive forwards and backwards into the officers' vehicles and began ramming into them. The defendant accelerated into a total of four occupied police cars containing five officers. The defendant was blocked in by these cars and he continued to push into and attempt to drive through them."

As unbelievable as that is, would you believe Ware is alleged to have continued to damage the police cars with his vehicle for about 15 minutes!? At that point, the Quad-City Times says his vehicle became inoperable. Yeah, I would think so.

So how do you cap off something like that? Apparently, with a nightcap. Or in this case, also with some knives. After he could no longer move his vehicle, police officers reportedly saw Ware drink a pair of 11-ounce Smirnoff's and take some pulls on a bottle of Captain Morgan. Sadly, it appears it wasn't the first alcohol he consumed behind the wheel Monday night.

When he was ordered to exit his vehicle, Ware allegedly refused and reportedly displayed multiple large knives inside his vehicle. He was finally arrested.

Ware has been charged with Assault on a Police Officer While Displaying a Weapon (5 counts), Interference with a Weapon (felony), OWI (2nd offense), Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, No Insurance, and Open Container. He's being held at the Scott County Jail in Davenport.
